Dr. Chloe Block

Dr. Chloё Block was born in England, but moved to Saratoga at a young age. She was a dedicated student at Saratoga High, and spent her free time practicing with the marching band and working at Santa Clara Pet Hospital. Fueled by a passion for animals, she set her sights on an undergraduate degree (BS) in Animal Science, followed by a veterinary degree (DVM) at one of the top veterinary schools in the country, University of California, Davis.

Graduating in the top 10 percent of her class, she narrowed her focus to the cardiology specialty – a field where she could provide life-saving treatments to the sickest of patients – and was chosen to complete her internship and cardiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania. After 12 years of college, veterinary school, and residency, she is proud to be one of the few board-certified veterinary cardiologists in the country.

For 3 years, she enjoyed serving the needs of diverse patients in the only multispecialty veterinary hospital in Washington, D.C., and even assisted in care for exotic animals from Princeton University, the Philadelphia Zoo, and the Smithsonian National Zoo. In her desire to advance the forefront of veterinary medicine, she has authored 14 scientific publications. Her calling, however, has always been to practice in the Bay Area, and she returned to California in 2019 with the aim of bringing first-rate veterinary care back to the neighborhoods where she grew up.

Dr. Michael Block

Michael Block is a native Californian; born and raised in Saratoga. He was an avid AP science enthusiast, and three-sport athlete at Saratoga High. A personal experience at Good Samaritan Hospital piqued his interest in pursuing a career in human medicine. A 2-month stint on the telemetry floor inspired pursuit of a B.S. degree in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior at UC Davis.

Driven to receive exemplary training, he pursued a master’s degree in Physiology and Biophysics and a medical degree (MD) from Georgetown University. He held a strong grasp of physiology and excelled in providing compassionate care to guide people through their most vulnerable times, which together motivated him to complete a residency in anesthesiology at Jefferson University. His desire to focus care for the most critically ill patients drove him to pursue one of the most rigorous fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at the University of Southern California, Keck Hospital.

He strove to bring the best practice of medicine to his hometown, and in 2019, returned to his community to practice at several local hospitals and surgical centers. After years of long talks with Chloe about the connections between human and veterinary medicine, his passion for providing gold standard care has expanded to our four-legged citizens as well. His experience with the latest technology and treatments in human medicine has been instrumental in shaping Apex to the highest standard of veterinary healthcare.
